Spring is Here!

Spring came early this year, said these babies who sat in a corner in my kitchen.
In the meanwhile, all the good food remains had digested quietly under the winter snow.
These trash cans and the bucket will serve well to grow some of those potatoes.
They said this bag of perlite is good for the soil.
After the last snow melted, the garbanzo beans that lay beneath, slowly started to  reach for the sun!
And so did this root, whose name I only suspected.
Turned out to be a turnip of some sort.
And so did the mustard...

And the ever faithful fenugreek.
I began digging a trench in the front yard to plant the potatoes...
Got bored of the single trench and split it into two at one end.

Planted the potatoes 1 ft apart and covered them with my home made compost.

In the meanwhile the dough was rising...
And she was waiting
For the fries to dry.
And the Aubergines to roast.
For the breads to rise...
An hour later, the breads have risen nicely
And sit coolly next to the mitt.
Hope to harvest some good potatoes this summer, and grow more food with friends, For Earth's Sake!

That was quite a busy and purposeful day. The loaves look so good! Enjoy the bread. Lots of plants to grow and relish in the summer. I am sowing the basil and fenugreek tomorrow!! Set up the hummingbird feeder in front of our living room window for Nidhi to enjoy and we made a mini bird bath with a terracotta saucer on top of smaller terracotta pot.Nidhi will take care of the watering from tomorrow.

Thanks Rekha! Great idea for a humming bird feeder. I should commission Nidhi to build a bird bath for our yard!
